OUR HISTORY AND LOCATION
We're located in downtown Pigeon, Michigan where our retail mail order divison that operates this website and our wholesale publications company, Graywood Designs, has its offices. The Mercantile began in 1992 as a retail quilt shop on Main Street in a two story building that used to house a dimestore. We've been doing mail order shipments from this location for almost 15 years.
OUR WEBSITE INTRODUCES OUR PATTERNS & BLOCK BOARDS
Our online shop offers some fabrics & yarns, some kits, some notions, and some patterns. It showcases the pattern line and Block Boards by Graywood Designs that are the heart and soul of what we do here in Pigeon. Graywood Designs, our wholesale company, ships knitting and quilting patterns and Block Boards to shops across the U. S. and Canada.

WHEN YOU VISIT PIGEON, STAY WITH US
When you visit Pigeon stay with us! We offer accommodations here in downtown Pigeon that are available by the day or by the week. Our two fully furnished, self catering apartments are delightful places for quilters to come and sew for a few days. If you are a business professional, you'll enjoy a place where you can spread your wings away from a hotel.
What is a "self catering" apartment? "Self catering" is a British term for cooking your own meals. Our apartments are like a bed and breakfast, only you provide the breakfast! Seriously, we've modeled our units on the Marriott Residence Inn concept -- a comfortable place away from home with spaces for relaxing, eating, and business.
Our rates are comparable to hotel rooms in the area and we offer discounts for stays of 4 days or more. Coffee, popcorn, and cookies always provided!
One of our apartments, Graywood Apartment, is located on the second floor of our office building. Entered through our garden, Graywood Apartment is decorated with quilts and has an IKEA kitchen. (If you don't know what that is, you'll just have to call and find out!) Our second rental apartment, Midtown Apartment, is just up the block from our office and right across the street from Main Street Cafe & Bakery, a favorite local restaurant.
Quilters, bring your sewing machine and plan to enjoy a few days camped out over our design studio. You'll enjoy seeing what we're up to here at Graywood Designs and we always love to have our sewing friends stay with us.

DINE AT MAIN STREET CAFE WHEN YOU COME TO PIGEON
Both of our self catering apartments -- Midtown Apartment and Graywood Apartment -- are located less than a block away from our favorite restaurant, Main Street Cafe and Bakery. Main Street is open from 6 am to 8 pm Monday thru Saturday and from 8 am to 3 pm on Sundays. So getting a meal when you stay in our apartments is no problem -- you can just walk across the street for Main Street's signature Club Sandwich or their homemade potato chips or the yummiest pecan tarts you've ever tasted.
